Kanz al-asrar was written by Muhammad Buziyan al-Gharisi al-Ma'askeri, a man who spent twenty years of his life as a disciple of the renowned Moroccan spiritual master, Mulay al-Arabi al-Darqawi (ca. 1743– 1823). Because Buziyan eventually became one of the al-Darqawi's scribes— making copies of the amazing letters of spiritual guidance sent to the many zawiyas of the order— he was both deeply infused with his Shaykh’ s spiritual teachings as well as a witness to how these teachings played out in day-to-day life.
